When Will the Impending BMC Elections 2022 be Held; Check Here

Even though earlier Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said "only God and the courts know when BMC election will be held," Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde talking about impending elections had said that elections to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation will be held in January 2023. Fadnavis in his earlier statement had said that the courts will decide when the long-awaited elections for the Mumbai Municipal Corporation would be held. He was reportedly referring to the court petitions regarding the OBC political quota and the BMC elections.

 

"The Commission, an independent entity, decides whether to have elections, and the Supreme Court has mandated a status quo. According to him, the government has no responsibility for holding. The BJP leader concurred that it was not ideal to keep an important civic organisation like BMC under an administrator's control for an extended period of time.

 

The Deputy CM added that the expansion of the cabinet would happen soon. Eknath Shinde, the chief minister, is one of the 18 cabinet members currently serving on the state Council of Ministers. Both the Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction and his ally, the Bharatiya Janata Party, have nine ministers. The Shiv Sena, NCP, and Congress coalition government led by Uddhav Thackeray were overthrown on June 30 due to Shinde's uprising. The current administration thereafter entered office. Only Shinde and Fadnavis took the oath on June 30, but on August 9 the first cabinet expansion occurred.

 

In Maharashtra, the Council of Ministers may consist of up to 43 people. In order to wish Eknath Shinde a happy Diwali, Fadnavis also contacted the Chief Minister. The two leaders got together late on Tuesday night at Varsha, the Chief Minister's official residence in South Mumbai. In the wake of Shinde's uprising and the Sena split, the BMC elections are more significant for the Uddhav Thackeray faction, which was dealt a blow when the Thackeray-led government fell in June. The shiv sena has ruled the financially wealthy Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for three decades.
