The Shiv Sena has chosen to withdraw its candidate from Goa's Panaji in support of former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar's son Utpal, who would run as an independent candidate in the state election. Sanjay Raut, a Shiv Sena MP, had earlier encouraged the opposition parties to support Utpal Parrikar if he did not receive a BJP ticket to run in Panaji. Raut remarked in a recent tweet, "We'll stick to our commitment. Shailendra Velingkar, the Shiv Sena's candidate in Panaji, has withdrawn."

"With this, our employees will rally behind Utpal Parrikar. We think that the battle for Panaji is about more than simply winning an election; it is also about purging Goa politics (sic) "Sanjay Raut tagged Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Aditya Thackeray in his tweet.

"You will issue a ticket to the guy with the criminal antecedent in the constituency represented by late Manohar Parrikar?" asked Utpal Parrikar in response to the Shiv Sena leader's tweet. Raut had tweeted earlier this month, "If Utpal Parrikar runs for the Panaji seat as an independent, I recommend that all non-BJP parties, such as the Aam Aadmi Party, Congress, Trinamool Congress, and Goa Forward Party, back him and do not run a candidate against him. This will be a true ManoharBhai tribute!"
