The Maharashtra Congress on Sunday demanded an apology from the BJP for allegations of corruption against the Maha Vikas Agadi (MVA) government in connection with the Manora MLA hostel project in Mumbai. BJP legislator Atul Bhatkalkar had written a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray alleging corruption worth 300 crores in the redevelopment of the Manora MLA hostel in south Mumbai.

Costs increased by 66 percent. State Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant said in a statement that the cost of the project for the reconstruction of the Manora MLA hostel was decided by the central government-owned National Buildings Construction Corporation Limited (NBCC), exposing the BJP's lies.  Therefore, he said, Bhatkalkar and the BJP should now issue an unconditional apology for allegations of corruption without knowing how the Rs 900 crore came to be.

He said the decision to renovate the Manora MLA hostel was taken by the Devendra Fadnavis government and NBCC was given the job. In a draft e-tender notice submitted to the Assembly on February 28, 2020, NBCC had earlier stated that the cost of the project was Rs 810 crore.

But in December of that year, it raised the project cost to Rs 875.62 crore.  It’s a detailed estimate, he said. Due to the delay, the state government took the contract from NBC and handed it over to the Public Works Department, Sawant added. In the MVA government led by Uddhav Thackeray, Congress shares power with the Shiv Sena and the NCP.
