In response to the opposition BJP's strategy of targeting the state government during the budget session, the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) allies
Shiv Sena, NCP and
Congress decided on Wednesday to build a united front to challenge the latter by adopting an "offence is the best defence" policy. Unfazed by the BJP's announcement that it would aggressively pursue issues such as corruption, scams, alleged underworld ties, and the government's failure to restore OBC and Maratha quotas, the MVA partners decided at the state cabinet and later at the alliance meeting to strongly oppose the BJP by denying it any political mileage ahead of the upcoming BMC elections.
During the state legislature's budget session, which begins on Thursday, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, who is recovering from back surgery, is expected to lead the BJP's attack from the front. Thackeray has already attacked the BJP's deployment of central inquiry agencies in the state, calling it "undemocratic and perverted" to "try to acquire power by punishing the Opposition." Raids will follow raids, but don't forget that they, too, will have their day."
The MVA government, according to Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, is "in action mode" and "completely prepared" to tackle resistance during the budget session. He claimed that if the opposition had attended today's traditional tea meeting, the government would have held a polite conversation on a variety of problems. The opposition, on the other hand, boycotted the traditional tea meeting.
Pawar stated that the government has already presented its position on
NCP Minister Nawab Malik's detention to the High Court, which will hear the latter's case on Thursday. "It is up to the Chief Minister to accept or reject the minister's resignation." Despite his detention, the minister has not been removed from West Bengal's council of ministers," he said.
Pawar thought that Governor BS Koshyari would approve the Speaker's election, which had been postponed after Koshyari declared the revisions to the business rule proposing election by voice vote rather than secret ballot unlawful. Balasaheb Thorat, the Congress legislative party's leader and Revenue Minister, has stated that the Speaker's election could take place on March 9. "Let us wait for another five days," Pawar remarked in response to state
BJP Chairman Chandrakant Patil's threat that the MVA administration would fall after March 7.
