Leader of the Opposition Devendra Fadnavis claimed on Thursday that the Maha Vikas Aghadi administration was dedicated to fugitive gangster and main conspirator in the 1993 serial bomb explosions in Mumbai Dawood Ibrahim, ahead of BMC elections in 2022. There were enough records, according to Fadnavis, to substantiate state minister Nawab Malik's ties to Dawood Ibrahim.

He went on to say that the BJP would not allow the budget session to take place until Malik was removed from the cabinet. On the first day of the four-week budget session, the BJP, which has been demanding Malik's resignation since his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case, sang slogans and criticised the MVA government for allegedly shielding the minister.

" I'm wondering if the Shiv Sena, despite being in power, is softening its stance on people who engaged into a land deal with the Mumbai blasts suspects," Fadnavis added, urging Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to speak out on the matter. The NCP, on the other hand, has retaliated, stating that Fadnavis' statement was a direct insult to Maharashtra's 11 crore inhabitants.

When Fadnavis was the state Chief Minister, his minister Girish Mahajan was observed attending the wedding of Dawood Ibrahim's close relative in Nashik, according to NCP spokesman Mahesh Tapase. He said Fadnavis should explain why he did not move against Mahajan and resign when the Nashik CP launched an internal investigation.

"The MVA government, which includes the Shiv Sena, the NCP, and the Congress, is dedicated to the welfare of Maharashtra's people. Senior BJP leaders have repeatedly attempted to smear the image of MVA leaders, which we have unitedly defended," Tapase added.
