On September 22, former chief minister Uddhav Thackeray received a rebuke from deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. While speaking to a Shiv Sena meeting, Thackeray made several contentious remarks and criticised the political climate in Maharashtra. In his address, Thackeray criticised Fadnavis and predicted that this would be the BJP leader's final election.

While speaking with the media, Fadnavis stepped up the verbal sparring by accusing Uddhav Thackeray of betraying the BJP. According to him, the Shiv Sena won the election by forming an alliance with the BJP rather than the Congress or the NCP. "Why didn't you step down in 2019 when you took office? PM Modi helped you win the election, but afterward, you betrayed the BJP "He continued by stating that his address at Goregaon's NESCO was a call for help.

He added, "You tried your hardest to finish me in the past two and a half years, along with Congress, NCP, but you couldn't finish me then and you won't be able to do it afterwards."
