According to senior
BJP leader and former chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, Maharashtra received more Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) than Gujarat during his tenure. Speaking at a business gathering, he stated that the current MVA administration must maintain its policies in order for the state to continue attracting substantial FDI.
"Before 2014, Gujarat was the leading state in terms of attracting FDI, followed by Delhi, Karnataka, and other states. Maharashtra was formerly ranked fifth. Between 2015 and 2019, we propelled Maharashtra to the top of the FDI rankings "Fadnavis, who served as Chief Minister from 2014 to 2019, stated.
"However, the groundwork we laid to attract FDI is now under jeopardy. Gujarat, Karnataka, and Delhi are catching up to Maharashtra. Between 2015 and 2019, Maharashtra garnered 47% and 42% of total FDI inflows into the country, respectively. We received more FDI in these two years than Gujarat, Karnataka, and Delhi combined "Fadnavis asserted.
He stated that the BJP government under him produced a suitable ecology and that a Deutsche Bank research released in 2019 revealed that Maharashtra was home to 49% of all big-ticket projects in the country. The BJP and Sena dominated the state in an alliance until 2014 when the latter broke away and joined up with
Congress and
NCP to form a government following the 2019 Assembly elections.
