Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut said after Uddhav Thackeray resigned today that Thackeray has captured people's hearts. Raut took to Twitter and commented, "CM stepped down gracefully. We've lost a sensitive and well-educated Chief Minister. History has shown that the end of fraud is rarely a happy one. Thackeray won the public vote (support). This is the start of Shiv Sena's big win." Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced his resignation on Wednesday, saying he was not interested in "playing the numbers' game."

"I am also resigning as a member of the Legislative Council," Thackeray said in a webcast, urging his party's workers not to take to the streets in protest. Thackeray's remark came only minutes after the Supreme Court denied a stay of the Maharashtra Governor's order to the Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress Maha Vikas Aghadi government to hold a floor test in the Assembly on Thursday. Thackeray, who was facing a mutiny led by Shiv Sena MLA Eknath Shinde, claimed he had no regrets about leaving his office. Thackeray, the Shiv Sena's leader, urged Sena workers to allow the breakaway MPs to return and refrain from taking to the streets in protest.

The insurgents had left Guwahati, where they had been camped for almost a week, earlier in the evening and arrived in Goa. "Let the rebels who grew politically as a result of Shiv Sena and Balasaheb Thackeray have the thrill and satisfaction of deposing his son as Chief Minister," Uddhav Thackeray stated. "I'm not interested in playing the numbers game. It would be disgraceful for me to see even one of my party members oppose me "He stated. He claimed that security in Mumbai has been strengthened and Shiv Sainiks have been apprehended.

Thackeray said the Congress and NCP did not object to his decision to rename Aurangabad Sambhajinagar at the last cabinet meeting, which was conducted in the evening. He also expressed gratitude to Congress President Sonia Gandhi and NCP Chief Sharad Pawar for their cooperation and support during the MVA government's tenure.
