Mumbai: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has targeted the Shiv Sena-ruled Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in the wake of cyclone Tauktae floods in the city. BJP MLA Atul Bhatkalkar said that the Shiv Sena's claims were proved to be hollow as parts of the city were submerged due to heavy rains earlier this week.

The Sena claims the clean-up is on schedule, but it took more than eight hours for the water to recede from parts of the city following Monday's rain. Bhatkalkar said that all the claims for cleaning up were fraudulent. More than 50 complaints have been lodged with the Disaster Management Cell across the city following the rains.

Bhatkalkar said BMC should pay compensation for damage to housing societies and ditches. Many compound walls and houses collapsed as trees fell. The Sena is responsible for this because they are not enthusiastic about the work of pruning the tree. He said it was too late to clear the proposal to hire contractors for tree trimming work.
