Even as allegations of corruption between the Maha Vikas Aghadi and the BJP continue to fly thick and fast, Shiv Sena president and CM Uddhav Thackeray and Leader of the Opposition Devendra Fadnavis engaged in a verbal spat on Sunday over the topic of Hindutva. Thackeray, who leads the state's MVA government, mocked the BJP, claiming that the BJP was not Hindutva and that the Shiv Sena's break with the BJP did not mean the Shiv Sena had broken with Hindutva.

"Unlike the BJP, which has several titles like the Bharatiya Jan Sangh and the Jan Sangh," Thackeray claimed, the Shiv Sena had always been committed to 'bhagva' (saffron) and Hindutva. Balasaheb Thackeray was the one who showed them (the BJP) that saffron and Hindutva will get them to Delhi," he remarked.

During the Kolhapur bypoll campaign for Congress nominee Jayashree Jadhav, who is currently running as the MVA candidate against BJP nominee Satyajit Kadam, Chief Minister gave a virtual speech. Thackeray stated that the Shiv Sena would vote for the Congress in the forthcoming by-election because his party kept its promises and was not a "backstabber".

Fadnavis, on the other hand, branded his party's estranged ally, Shiv Sena as "pseudo-secular." He pointed out that a Shiv Sena worker had created an Urdu calendar in which the party's founder, Bal Thackeray, was addressed as 'janab'. "The Shiv Sena has morphed into a pseudo-secular organization. We are not, however, against any religion or its beliefs," he quickly said.

"Every political party has a few idiots who make rash statements. If at all possible, the BJP will assault from the front, not in this manner. "Some ruling parties are attempting to distract attention by blaming the BJP because the media knew about the attack but not the police," Fadnavis said during his speech during the bypoll campaign for party nominee Satyajit Kadam.

Fadnavis also accused the MVA of 'terrorising' residents in North Maharashtra and wondered if the region had become like West Bengal, which has experienced a wave of political violence recently, including the burning to death of several people in Birbhum last month.
