Three MVA leaders meet Maharashtra Governor Koshyari, over nod for MLC names
After a much-awaited period of Nine months, when the Maharashtra Government had recommended 12 names for the nominations of the member of the legislative council, a delegation consisting of three members headed by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had a meeting with Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Wednesday and urged him to clear the appointments.

Responding to which he stated that he would soon take the decision, stated a leader from the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) Government. The three-member delegation included Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Balasaheb Thorat the state Revenue Minister from the Congress party.

This issue of appointment of 12 members, has sparked rows between the Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition comprising Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress. It has been 20 days that the Bombay High Court stated that the Governor of Maharashtra should accept or reject the proposal that has been sent to him by the State of Maharashtra in a reasonable time.

After hearing the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) which was filed against the governor’s inaction on the suggestion made by the Uddhav Thackeray government, a verdict was passed by the court on 13 August. “It has been requested by us to the Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, to take the decision early as it would help in functioning the legislature of the state. We said it was our request to accept the recommendation even though it is your right to make a decision,” Sharad Pawar stated outside Raj Bhavan after the meeting with Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari.
