In response to poll strategist Prashant Kishor's remark about the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) "divine right of leadership,"
Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamana said on Saturday that the Opposition must first unite against the BJP before selecting who will head the United Progressive Alliance (UPA).
This comes after Prashant Kishor attacked the Congress, claiming that its leadership is not a divine right and pointing out that the party has lost more than 90% of elections in the last decade. To gain power, the editorial urged the opposition parties not to go after Congress.
"Many states still have representatives in Congress. Congress politicians have joined Trinamool in Goa and North-eastern states, while AAP has done the same "Saamana remarked. According to the editorial, allying similar to the UPA will only boost the BJP.
"Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi should take the initiative and come forward to build the United Progressive Alliance," Saamana said.
The Shiv Sena also praised Priyanka Gandhi's efforts during the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, saying, "The case would have been dismissed if Priyanka had not visited Lakhimpur Kheri. She did her job as the head of the opposition." "Who has the supernatural authority to lead the UPA is secondary; first and foremost, we must present the people with a choice," it continued.
Mamata's declaration that "there is no UPA" following a meeting in Mumbai with Sharad Pawar, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), a Congress partner in Maharashtra, drew a sharp response from various Opposition figures. The TMC head remarked at a Mumbai event that if all regional parties banded together, beating the
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would be simple.
From 2004 until 2014, the Trinamool Congress was a member of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), a coalition of many parties led by
Congress that ruled the country for ten years.
Mamata is constantly campaigning for a strong alternative at the national level, while indirectly taking on Congress, following the TMC's massive victory in West Bengal Assembly elections earlier this year. Now, this is to be seen how this ongoing event will affect the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections 2022.
