In the midst of a raging controversy over NCP MP Dr. Amol Kolhe's portrayal as Nathuram Godse and his party's justification for not mixing reel life with real life, the
Congress party, which shares power in Maharashtra with the
Shiv Sena and the NCP, announced on Sunday that it will ask Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to ban the film "Why I Killed Gandhi." Nana Patole, the state Congress unit chief, stated that portraying Mahatma Gandhi's assassin as a hero is unacceptable.
Patole, who has previously stated that Congress will not tolerate Godse's glorification, asserted that Gandhi and his nonviolence concept are synonymous with India. Amol Kolhe portrays Nathuram Godse, the man who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi in 1948, in the short film 'Why I Killed Gandhi.' Despite the fact that the film was made in 2017 before Amol Kolhe joined
NCP in 2019, it was released on January 30 this year on an OTT platform.
Dr. Kolhe is an artist, but he is also a political party's MP, according to Patole, thus he is supposed to act more properly. Unfortunately, by abusing his artistic freedom, he has glorified Nathuram and supported the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation.
"This is an extraordinary attempt to make Nathuram Godse a hero." People have already expressed great disapproval and outrage about other actors' portrayals of Godse. Dr. Kolhe's rationale for playing Nathuram is inconsistent and unsatisfactory," Patole said. Dr. Kolhe, on the other hand, has stated that he is a strong follower of Mahatma Gandhi's ideas and beliefs. Meanwhile, the All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting that the film be banned completely, claiming that it honours "Nathuram Godse.
