The BJP has fielded three candidates in the election for six Rajya Sabha seats in Maharashtra. The BJP, which is intensifying its attacks on the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi administration, plans to entice unhappy legislators and so mobilize sufficient votes. The state unit's suggestion to checkmate MVA by fielding three nominees has been accepted by the central BJP leadership. Nominations must be submitted by May 31, with voting scheduled for June 10.

MVA, which is divided between the Shiv Sena, NCP, and Congress, confronts a significant task in keeping its flock together and hence avoiding cross-voting. The BJP for its part, will go all out to capitalise on the contrasts between the three parties in order to win three candidates. Insiders at the MVA did not rule out extensive horse dealing.

The BJP has renominated Union Minister Piyush Goyal, as well as former minister Anil Bonde and former MP Dhananjay Mahadik. Goyal's re-election was essentially a formality, but Bonde was rewarded for launching salvos at the MVA government. Bonde, who served as agriculture minister in the BJP-led administration, is from Vidarbha, which has become the BJP's stronghold after the demise of the Congress party.

Mahadik, a former NCP MP who switched to the BJP ahead of the 2019 general elections, is from the sugarcane-rich Kolhapur district. He was chosen after the Shiv Sena replaced Chhatrapati Sambhajiraje with Sanjay Pawar, the District Chairman of Kolhapur.

Although BJP National Secretary Vinod Tawde's name was floated for consideration, he was not chosen. "If the central leadership directs us, we would field a third candidate and win that seat as well," said state BJP Chief Chandrakant Patil. According to the Assembly's strength, two BJP candidates can easily win."

The Shiv Sena has nominated Sanjay Raut for a fourth consecutive term, while the party's Kolhapur District Chairman Sanjay Pawar has been chosen by party President and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. On May 26, Raut and Pawar submitted their nominations. Raut has frequently stated that the party will contest and win the second seat based on surplus votes and transfers of excess votes by partners NCP and Congress.

The NCP has renominated former Union Minister Praful Patel, who will file his nominations on Monday. In terms of the Congress, the party has nominated Mohammad Imran Pratapgarhi, an Urdu poet famed for his protest poetry and a Congress youth activist from Uttar Pradesh. Other frontrunners, such as former Union Ministers Mukul Wasnik and Milind Deora, have not been considered. Wasnik was a member of the now-defunct G23 coalition of unhappy Congress leaders.
