With his allegedly offensive remarks against Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Supriya Sule on Monday, Maharashtra Agriculture Minister Abdul Sattar sparked a scandal. This sparked significant reactions, including rallies from party members in various places. The NCP leader responded to the claimed remark, pointing out that it is against Maharashtra's culture and history to criticise someone in such a way. Sule expressed her disgust in a string of Marathi tweets, writing that such sentiments are not typical of those in positions of authority. She further asked people to set these tendencies aside and preserve Maharashtra's civilised history.

In response to criticism, Sattar said at a rally in Sillod that evening that he was sorry for the slur he had used. According to Sattar, a member of the Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena, which is run by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, he did not utter any remarks derogatory about women. When reporters questioned the Sillod MLA about the "khoke" (boxes of money) jibe, he allegedly referred to Sule, the daughter of NCP leader Sharad Pawar, with a disparaging term.
Shiv Sena leaders (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) frequently make fun of the Eknath Shinde-supporting MLAs with the remark, "40 khoke," which alludes to a supposed exchange of money when they rebelled against Shiv Sena leadership.

As the debate heated up, Shiv Sena spokesperson and Maharashtra minister Deepak Kesarkar issued an apology for Sattar's remarks. He advised Sattar to extend an apology and provide an explanation as well. An official stated yesterday's demonstration by Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) members in front of Sattar's south Mumbai home resulted in the detention of 20 NCP supporters by the Mumbai Police.
