Ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation election, the BJP recently arranged Jan Ashirwad Yatra. After which the Mumbai Police registered 17 FIRs against the leaders of the BJP alleging violation of Covid 19 protocols set by the Government of Maharashtra. Now the FIRs against the BJP leaders have gone up to 36.

The rally named Jan Ashirwad Yatra was launched by Union Minister Rane, who has been appointed newly in the Narendra Modi cabinet. The rally was attended by former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Pravin Darekar. The decision of conducting a rally was opposed by the Shiv Sena stating that the rally is being done at a time when the state of Maharashtra continues to battle the Covid 19 pandemic.

In response, to the FIRs the BJP leader Keshav Upadhye stated that “Political functions are being organised across the state by all the parties including (ruling) Shiv Sena. A large number of people are gathering in those events too, but no cases are registered against members of the ruling party.” These allegations by Upadhye on Friday and pointed out that the BJP had regularly told its workers attending the Yatra to follow Covid protocols.
