The Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut has alleged BJP for treating Shiv Sena as “slaves” when both the parties were allies from 2014-19. Raut said that BJP made attempts to finish off Shiv Sena politically in Maharashtra when they (BJP) were in power. Raut was addressing Sena workers in Jalgaon where he said, “In the previous state government, Shiv Sena was having a secondary status, and was treated as slaves. They (BJP) enjoyed the power because of our support in Maharashtra, but they tried to finish us off politically.”

Raut made these remarks after the meeting that was held in Delhi between Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The meeting created a lot of political speculations in the state. The BJP and Shiv Sena alliance crumbled in 2019 after the fight over the position of Chief Minister.

Sena was having a long-term alliance with BJP which was made during the time of Balasaheb Thackeray, who was the founder of Shiv Sena and was a great leader of Maharashtra. Now, Shiv Sena has bonded with Congress and NCP in the Maha Vikas Aghadi government which is currently ruling the state. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections are due in February 2022, and Congress has already decided to contest individually. Sena and NCP will remain an alliance in the coming civic body elections.
