Following comparisons between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde made by a state Bhartiya Janata Party Minister, the opposition
Shiv Sena (UBT) organised loud demonstrations in Mumbai and other cities throughout the nation to denounce the comments. The demonstrators, led by MP Arvind Sawant and others, chanted anti-BJP slogans after
BJP Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha made remarks at a gathering on Wednesday in Satara's Pratapgad Fort.
"They are history-illiterate... We'll give them copies of the history textbook for class IV. They will learn a little about the illustrious past of the Chhatrapati "said Sawant, who was held by the Mumbai Police along with several demonstrators.
Ajit Pawar, the head of the Nationalist Congress Party, Balasaheb Thorat, Aditya Thackeray, the leader of the Sena (UBT), and Chief Spokesperson Sanjay Raut all vehemently denounced Lodha's remarks on Wednesday. Last night, a big number of NCP workers conducted rallies around the country. In the face of the Maha Vikas Aghadi's onslaught, the ruling Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena's Minister Uday Sawant and ally BJP attempted to downplay Lodha's remarks by stating he was only presenting an example (MVA).
Lodha himself made an effort to come clean, claiming that he had compared Shinde's uprising against the former Shiv Sena with a real historical incident involving Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's achievement. After Lodha recalled the Chhatrapati's alleged escape from the Agra Fort (1666), where he was held by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, a new feud broke out. This was in response to Eknath Shinde's political uprising against the Shiv Sena in 2022; however, Shinde had previously stated that he had left the party of his own free will.
With reference to recent incidents involving Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, BJP Spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi, and now State Minister Lodha, the MVA leaders have accused the BJP of "running a competition" to "malign" Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Maharashtra.
