Shiv Sena MP Rahul Shewale has accused the opposition of giving ‘religious color' to his proposal of naming a flyover in the city after saint Moinuddin Chishti, which was opposed by leaders of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). According to Shewale, he wrote a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray demanding to name the Mankhurd flyover in Mumbai after Saint Moinuddin Chishti on public demand.

Shiv Sena MP said in a statement, “As people’s representative, it is my responsibility to put the public’s demand in front of the government. This flyover is located on the border of the south-central constituency and northeast constituency of Lok Sabha. Manoj Kotak is the MP from the northeast constituency and he demanded to name the flyover after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.”

Shewale added that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is a “deity” of Maharashtra and there will not be any opposition from the Shiv Sena if the flyover is named after him. BJP’s vice president of Maharashtra unit, Kirit Somaiya said, “There are talks about naming the Mankhurd flyover after the name of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. Shiv Sena is carrying a green flag now instead of a saffron flag.” Moinuddin Chishti was one of the Sufi saints who came to India when Sultan Iltutmish was ruling Delhi.
