The ongoing tussle between the BJP and the Sena continued even on Dussehra and infact got even worse with party activists of the latter barging into BJP’s Dussehra programme at Mulund and allegedly manhandled and assaulted the BJP party workers. It is reported that atleast 15-16 BJP workers including women activists, were injured in this mini riot-like situation in Neelam Nagar in Mulund.

BJP MP Kirit Somaiya was there at the gathering and had just finished his speech and was about to leave, when this incident took place. Two buses filled with Sainiks barged into the ground and allegedly started assaulting BJP workers with bamboos. He was taken away by party workers before the Sainiks could get to him. “Somaiyyaji was on the ground and refused to leave until those responsible for the assaults were brought to book. Shiv Sainiks purposely tried to disturb the peaceful programme without any provocation. We strongly protest their act,” said Shiv Kumari, Somaiya’s personal assistant.

DCP Ashok Dudhe, city police spokesman, said, “There was a scuffle between workers of the two political parties in the Navghar area. The police immediately intervened and brought the situation under control. An offence will be registered at Navghar police station and action as per law will be taken. The situation at Navghar is totally peaceful and under control now.”

Kirit Somaiya had just last week openly voiced his opinion of the BJP not lining with the Shiv Sena for the upcoming Civic Body Elections.
