The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sharad Pawar at a function in Satara indicated changing political equations in the state after BMC polls.

However, his prediction of mid-term polls was dismissed by the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance as a political ploy to create an atmosphere of political instability in the state. Although the NCP president has not explained the reason behind the prediction, political managers in the NCP revealed, “It is our reading that the Shiv Sena will withdraw support to the government if it does not have the upper hand in the BMC polls.”

State Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar dismissed the NCP’s wishful thinking as “baseless”. He said that the BJP and Sena has good relations both in the government and outside and that the public mandate is for a BJP-Sena government which will be honoured.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has 122 seats in the house out of 288 while the Shiv Sena has 63 seats. The Indian National Congress  has 42 seats while the NCP has 41 seats.
