Amid a chorus calling for a ban on loudspeakers during Azaan and the chanting of Hanuman Chalisa, Devendra Fadnavis (
BJP), the state assembly's Leader of Opposition, strongly criticised former union minister Sharad Pawar and his party, the
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), for actively engaging in appeasement politics. On the 131st anniversary of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar's birth, Fadnavis sent out 14 tweets aimed at Pawar.
Fadnavis slammed Pawar on a variety of subjects, including the repeal of Article 370, the 1993 serial Mumbai explosions, The Kashmir Files, the NCP's backing for Ishrat Jahan, and the fact that the NCP's home ministry went light on Raza Academy a few years ago. Pawar, according to Fadnavis, was the first to use the term "Hindu terror." "Can you tell me what occurred when Mumbai cried? When Mumbai was rocked by 12 bomb blasts on March 12, 1993, @PawarSpeaks Ji concocted the 13th attack in a Muslim neighbourhood. Appeasement, rather than law and order, was his priority," he said.
On the simmering controversy over 'The Kashmir Files,' which shows the migration of Kashmiri Pandits from the valley, Fadnavis stated Pawar's critique was entirely consistent with the NCP's decades-long track record of appeasement policy and politics, as well as polarising society on a sectarian basis. "The Kashmir Files' film is not anti-religion, but it is anti-those who decided to look the other way while people were suffering because it suited their political purpose of appeasement, resulting in a communal division." Such activities and approaches that disrupt societal harmony will not be tolerated in Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkari ji's India," he said.
Pawar's words, according to Fadnavis, are completely consistent with the NCP's decades-long track record of appeasement policy and politics, as well as polarising society on a communal basis. To substantiate his allegations against Pawar and the NCP, Fadnavis attached the links to numerous news pieces. He shared media reports quoting Pawar as saying that Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik (arrested by the ED in a money laundering case last month) was being linked to fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim because he was a Muslim.
