After the Shiv Sena emphasized the significance of the Congress in any opposition front against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the meeting took place. West Bengal Chairman Minister Mamata Banerjee met Raut, Aaditya Thackeray, a Sena leader and state minister, and NCP chief Sharad Pawar in Mumbai last week.

Banerjee stated after meeting Pawar that the United Progressive Alliance was no longer in existence. The Sena, on the other hand, has stated that building a parallel front against the UPA is equivalent to strengthening the BJP and that the most significant threat is that even those opposed to Narendra Modi and his ideology believe the Congress should be wiped out. The Sena had questioned Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi about their plans for the UPA.

According to sources, the Sena and Congress officials are expected to discuss current political trends and the possibility of forming an alternative front to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in five states' Assembly elections. "National and state-level concerns will be discussed during the meeting," a Sena leader said.

In the last two months, Raut has met with Rahul twice. In October, Raut met with Rahul to address the unrest in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, as well as other Maharashtra-related matters. The Sena's support for the Congress and their multiple meetings are being interpreted as a sign that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) administration, which includes the Sena, Congress, and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), is not in danger.

Meanwhile, Milind Narvekar, Shiv Sena secretary and CM Uddhav Thackeray's personal assistant stirred outrage on Monday when he posted a photo of Shiv Sainiks who helped demolish the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya. "Tributes to Shiv Sainiks' sacrifice for the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya," Narvekar wrote in his tweet. This tweet from Narvekar has come at a time when the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections 2022 are around the corner and instances like these may affect the voter turnout.
