Finally, the Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana, led by Raju Shetti, declared its decision to break ties with the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government on Tuesday, condemning it for its indifference to farmers. Following a meeting of his party's executive in Kolhapur, Shetti revealed his decision. Shetti has been unhappy with the MVA government's functioning, according to the Free Press Journal, and he is enraged that his party's lone legislator from the Vidarbha region has switched allegiances to the Nationalist Congress Party.

Shetti has ruled out forming a coalition with the BJP, which he left before the 2019 Lok Sabha and State Elections. The Shiv Sena-led MVA government has lost a significant supporter from the sugarcane-rich Kolhapur district, as well as its foothold in Western and Southern Maharashtra, with Shetti's declaration. Shetti, a former MP from Hatkanangale, was also disappointed that he was not nominated for the state legislative council from the NCP quota.

"MVA government's anti-farmer land acquisition laws, as well as its determination that sugar companies will pay sugarcane growers the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) in two installments," Shetti told the Free Press Journal. Farmers will only receive 30% compensation under the state land acquisition act, he noted.
