In a significant political development on the eve of the end of the ongoing winter session of the Maharashtra Legislature, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has submitted a motion of no confidence against the state assembly Speaker Mr. Rahul Narwekar, expressing strong displeasure over his manner of functioning for not allowing the opposition to speak.

The letter regarding the motion of no confidence was delivered to the legislative secretary, Mr. Rajendra Bhagwat, by MVA leaders including the former minister and Congress MLA Mr. Sunil Kedar, Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray MLA Mr. Sunil Prabhu, and NCP MLA Mr. Anil Patil. 39 MVA lawmakers have signed the letter.

We have filed a motion of no confidence against you because we believe you no longer have a moral right to hold the office of Speaker. The letter is from MVA. Since Mr. Eknath Shinde's government took office in the state on June 30, MVA and the Speaker have been at odds. His election was placed on July 3.
MVA leaders have regularly expressed their displeasure with Mr. Narwekar during the ongoing winter session for allegedly favouring the ruling alliance by preventing the opposition from speaking.

Ajit Pawar, the head of the opposition, Jayant Patil, a member of the NCP, Nana Patole, a former speaker of the Congress, and Uddhav, a member of the Shiv Sena Others, including Balasaheb Thackeray MLA Mr. Bhaskar Jadhav, requested that the Speaker permit the opposition to voice their opinions or raise points of order, procedure, or information. They felt rushed during discussions about the Maharashtra-Karnataka boundary dispute, claims made against former Minister Mr. Aaditya Thackeray by the ruling party, the regularisation of Gairan land by agriculture minister Mr. Abdul Sattar, and a number of other topics.
