The Maharashtra Congress asserted on Monday that the BJP had plotted to disparage the Martha warrior in light of the raging controversy surrounding Governor BS Koshyari's claim that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was an icon of earlier times and statements made by BJP leaders. It appears that the Maharashtrian god Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is the target of competition among Bhartiya Janata Party leaders. Four to five BJP leaders have insulted Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the last month, according to Nana Patole, President of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, here on Monday.

He harshly criticised the BJP, claiming that their plan to discredit Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was intentional rather than accidental given the repeated insults.
According to Patole, in an effort to win over Nitin Gadkari, then-Gov. Bhagat Singh Koshyari insulted Shivaji Maharaj by equating him with Nitin Gadkari and calling Maharaj a symbol of the past. Sudhanshu Trivedi, a BJP spokesperson, then made the haughty claim that the Maharaja had apologised to Aurangzeb five times.

The Maharaja's escape from Agra was compared by the Tourism Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha to the Shiv Sena rebels leaving the organisation. Maharaj was born in Konkan, according to a recent finding revealed by MLA Prasad Lad. It didn't end there, he continued, as a video of Union Minister Raosaheb Danve disparaging Maharaj has since gone popular on social media.

The Bharatiya Janata Party, which takes great men's insults and defamations of them lightly, is shared by all of those who disparage Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. It was anticipated that they would strongly condemn these statements when they were made in public and take action against the people who made them, but the Bharatiya Janata Party instead defended those individuals, according to Patole.  The people of Maharashtra would never accept the disrespect of their idols, and these BJP politicians will be put in their place, according to Patole, who claimed that the audacity to disparage great men is a result of their ascent to power.
