At the Mahatma Gandhi statue near Mantralaya, Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) partners held a sit-in protest against the arrest of Maharashtra Minister Nawab Malik. The first to arrive at the protest site outside Mahatma Gandhi's statue near the state government Mantralaya was NCP leader Pawar, whose party shares power in the state with the Shiv Sena and Congress as part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).

State Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil, State Health Minister Rajesh Tope, State Water Resources Minister Jayant Patil, Housing Minister Jitendra Awhad, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, Minister of State for Tourism Aditi Tatkare (all NCP leaders), Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat, Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Vijay Wadettiwar, PWD Minister Ashok Chavan, Sports Minister Sunil Kedar, Textiles Minister Asl (all from Congress).

Supriya Sule, a member of the National Congress Party, and Rupali Chakankar, the head of the state Women's Commission, were also there. For approximately an hour after the protest began at 10 A.M., no senior Shiv Sena representative was seen. Subhash Desai, the State Industries Minister and a member of the Uddhav Thackeray-led party, later joined the demonstration.

Aaditya Thackeray, the State Tourism Minister, and Sanjay Raut, the Shiv Sena's main spokesperson, are now campaigning in Uttar Pradesh for the assembly elections. Thorat suggested to reporters that central investigation agencies were being utilized to stifle political opponents. The allegations against Malik are "baseless," according to Jayant Patil, the state NCP Chairman. Malik stated that he will reply in court to all claims of ties to terrorism levelled against him.
