The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) declared on Monday that the Uddhav Thackeray side is the "genuine" Shiv Sena, despite the Election Commission's ruling being being appealed and two rallies being planned on Dussehra day by opposing groups. According to party spokesperson Mahesh Tapase, the Sharad Pawar-led party believes that Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena is the true Shiv Sena and represents the ideologies of the late Bal Thackeray, who founded the party.

"This year, there will be two Dussehra rallies. The one led by Uddhav Thackeray is the one of tradition, loyalty, self-respect, and Balasaheb (Thackeray) principles. Although the Election Commission has not yet decided which Shiv Sena is the actual one, the true Shiv Sena is the one that adheres to Balasaheb's (Thackeray's) ideologies, which is the Shiv Sena led by Uddhav Thackeray "In a video statement, he stated.

Thackeray suffered a defeat last week when the Supreme Court permitted the Election Commission to proceed with hearing the Eknath Shinde group's petition for recognition as the "genuine" Shiv Sena and the assignment of the party's bow-and-arrow election symbol to it. While the group led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has reserved the MMRDA grounds at the Bandra Kurla Complex for the October 5 gathering, the Thackeray-led faction plans to hold its demonstration in Mumbai's Shivaji Park.

Since the Shiv Sena split, NCP leader Sharad Pawar and other prominent party figures have supported the Thackeray-led faction.
One of the three organisations that make up the Maha Vikas Aghadi is the Thackeray-led Sena (MVA). Following a revolt by 39 Shiv Sena MLAs led by Shinde, the MVA administration fell in June of this year.
