Days after demanding a say in how the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government operates, the Congress party, which shares power with the Shiv Sena and the NCP, urged Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday to expedite the implementation of the Common Minimum Programme (CMP), which was finalized by three parties at the time of the government's formation after the 2019 assembly elections.

In a letter to the CM, state Congress president Nana Patole said that as the number of corona cases decreases and normalcy returns, the government should focus more on implementing the CMP while prioritizing a host of programs and schemes for the welfare of the poor, OBCs, and minorities.

Patole's letter came months after Congress President Sonia Gandhi reminded Thackeray about the CMP and urged him to guarantee that the SC and ST communities were developed. "In 2019, three parties joined forces to prevent communal movements from gaining power and promoting the overall development of all sections of society." The MVA administration has opted to run on the CMP platform, as proposed by Congress chief Sonia Gandhi. The Congress party's job in the state continues to provide justice to all parts of society," Patole stated.

Patole also mentioned Sonia Gandhi's letter to Thackeray in December 2020, in which she requested the implementation of programmes for the welfare of Dalits, OBCs, and minorities. "Corona caused problems for the state government, but the MVA government, led by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, has done a wonderful job even in these trying times." The government should develop assistance packages for Dalits, OBCs, and minority communities as soon as normalcy is restored and the state economy is back on track," he said.

Patole's letter was written after the Supreme Court overturned a 27 percent political reservation for OBCs in civic and local government. Furthermore, there is a growing demand from party officials and various organisations for increased funding for Dalit and minority community welfare initiatives.
