Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole wants to go solo for upcoming elections but data states it's not a good idea
Continuously statements are being given by the Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole about his party going solo for the upcoming elections, these statements tend to create agitation in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), an alliance consisting of the Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). With this comes a study of the election results for the Lok Sabha, State Assembly, and Civic Bodies of five key cities in Maharashtra, stating that the performance of the Congress Party has been progressively depressing in the state where the party was formed which it has led for the bulk of its existence.

The Congress vote share in Maharashtra in the Lok Sabha and Assembly Elections have regularly fallen in 2004 — when the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) led by Congress won a second continuous term in office in the state — and 2019. It carried the same fate in the civic polls in Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, and Thane, between 2002 and 2017.  All five cities are gearing up for the face-off for the early polls in 2022.

From the year 2002, the Congress party went solo in many of these elections. In Mumbai, Congress completed the 2002, 2007, and 2017 elections individually. The 2014 assembly elections were also fought individually at the state level. When questioned the Maharashtra spokesperson Sachin Sawant about the performance of the party he pegged its falling vote share in cities to the “Modi wave”, but stated that it didn’t throw back a trend.
“The votes which we used to share in the urban areas has immensely fallen soon after 2014 as after the entrance of Modi wave that’s the reason why the urban middle class went towards the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in huge numbers. But, this has happened with Opposition parties all over the country, and we believe that this is irregularity more than a trend,” stated Sawant.
