Before the proceedings began on Wednesday in the state legislature's chambers, members from the ruling and opposition parties engaged in a slogan war. While the opposition criticised the Chief Minister in connection with the suspected NIT land scam and demanded his resignation, ruling legislators yelled slogans condemning the purported insult of saints and icons by a few Maha Vikas Leaders. The Karnataka government's bullying tactics on the border issue, as well as the state's Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, were denounced in the opposition's chants.
Alongside the MVA leaders, opposition leaders Ajit Pawar and Ambadas Danve, the former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, the state's
NCP and
Congress leaders Jayant Patil and Nana Patole, the former speaker Dilip Wales-Patil, and the former minister Hasan Mushrif distributed sweets and asserted that MVA had outsmarted the ruling
BJP-Shinde camp alliance in the 7,135 Gram Panchayat elections.
On Tuesday, the ruling alliance's victory in 3029 Gram Panchayats was announced by the Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, and the Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis. Pawar, however, asserted today that MVA had won 3,258 Sarpanch positions, as opposed to the ruling alliance's 3013. He added that 4,019 Sarpanches from the MVA and affiliated parties have been chosen.
Even before the 7,135 Gram Panchayat Polls were officially declared over, the ruling alliance claimed it had outperformed the MVA in terms of seats won. It was entirely incorrect. Instead, he said, "many from rural areas supported the MVA in these elections. Danve also criticised the ruling coalition for making false claims about gaining more Sarpanch and Gram Panchayat seats.
