The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday criticized the Shiv Sena in the upcoming 2022 BMC over its proposal to extend the tenure of reservations for BMC councillor wards. "These are excuses for maintaining the status quo and denying others the opportunity of contesting polls"- said AAP on Wednesday.  BMC's 227 municipal councillor wards are re-assigned all kinds of reservations by lottery every five years, thus changing the reservation type regularly.

The Army now wants to extend reservations in the same ward for 10 years, so the previous reservation was extended in 2017 - for another term from 2022.  The Congress wants a new delimitation process, alleging that the BJP was biased when the ward boundaries were redrawn last time.  AAP said it has always believed that the solution to bad governance in a democracy is deep democracy.  "The Shiv Sena's demand to extend the 2017 ward reservation in BMC is wrong. Are they saying that if the reservation does not continue, the same wards with another reservation will suffer?"  Asked the Aam Aadmi Party.

"We need more democracy, no less, of course more opportunities, at the grassroots. The Congress is losing as usual and is being cut off from the ground. The Aam Aadmi Party will write to the State Election Commission every five years to change the reservation," said Aam Aadmi Party Mumbai Prabha Preeti Sharma Menon.
