It was first reported on November 5, that the MNS had decided to change the party symbol and it was yet to be updated with the Election Commission of India back then. However, the same has now been officially done and updated, with the election commission, granting the permission to the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena.

The initial symbol of the party was with the railway engine running from right to left direction. This got changed in 2012 when the direction of the engine reversed. Now, the party members strongly felt the need to reverse the direction of their symbol, a railway engine, from left to right and make it move from right to left instead, thereby sticking to the original direction.

The MNS first contested state elections in 2009 and won 13 assembly seats. It also won 28 seats during the civic body polls of 2012. But after it changed the direction of the engine in its symbol, the party’s popularity diminished massively, and it won only one seat in the 2014 assembly election. In the last few months, six MNS corporators have deserted the party to join the Shiv Sena or the BJP.

Finally, MNS leaders took the decision to change the symbol to its original direction. The party believes that doing so will bring it good fortune in the upcoming civic polls.
