BMC Elections 2022
As the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections 2022 loom closer and closer, and political circles circling. Sanjay Raut, a Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha (RS) MP, has remarked that Mamata Banerjee, the president of the All-India Trinamool Congress (AITMC) and West Bengal chief minister, appears to be attempting to form an anti-Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) front while excluding the Congress. The AITMC, according to Raut, is not considering a political entry into Maharashtra because the Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) are effectively opposing the BJP's power.

Banerjee, who visited Mumbai last week and met Sena leader and tourism minister Aaditya Thackeray and Nationalist Congress Party’s (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar, wants to grow beyond her state, according to Raut's weekly column in the Shiv Sena newspaper Saamana, of which he is the executive editor. According to him, the AITMC has already established a presence in Goa, Meghalaya, and Tripura. "It appears like she is considering doing something else without the Congress," Raut tweeted, immediately adding that the AITMC chairman had stated that they are hesitant to enter Maharashtra due to the Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party's (NCP) strong presence.

"They (BJP) lambasted Banerjee but did not speak a word against the Gujarat chief minister who met industrialists from Maharashtra for the Vibrant Gujarat summit," Raut added, referring to the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) assertion that Banerjee came here to capture local firms. This is a case of hypocrisy."

The Congress is a member of Maharashtra's Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) administration, led by Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray. During a news conference in Mumbai, Banerjee questioned the existence of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), which is led by Congress.

"This cry is a metaphor of how politics will shape up in the future," Raut remarked, referring to Banerjee's slogan during her visit, "Jai Bangla, Jai Maharashtra." Banerjee's presence reminded him of a sister returning to her parents' house. Atul Londhe, the Maharashtra Congress's chief spokesperson, said in a guarded statement that the column and Saamana's editorial position had taken an anti-BJP posture.

Unlike Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and his predecessor Anandiben Patel, he claimed, Banerjee has come to serve as a bridge between Maharashtra and Bengal. "The Congress is well-known throughout the United States... To beat the BJP, he maintained, the Congress must be brought together.
