On Thursday, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya filed a petition in the Bombay High Court requesting a CBI investigation into the alleged attack on him here last week, as well as action against the municipal police for filing a "false and twisted" FIR in the case. Somaiya said in his plea that on April 23, he was violently attacked outside the suburban Khar police station by Shiv Sena workers, who are the state's Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government.

Somaiya, a former Lok Sabha MP from Mumbai, claimed the police did it to protect Shiv Sena members. The Mumbai police's action, according to the plea, was a flagrant violation of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and a violation of a citizen's fundamental rights. "As a result, in order to advance the principles of justice, fair play, and impartial inquiry, the investigation into the petitioner's life must be handed to the CBI," the appeal stated.
