In the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, known for his no-nonsense style of communication, took a dig at Maharashtra Governor B S Koshyari, saying that some people in high positions were making unnecessary remarks, which was not acceptable to the people of the state. Koshyari was also present for the function, which was held on the grounds of the MIT College in Pune.
The ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi has attacked Koshyari for his recent declaration that Samarth Ramdas was Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's guru. There was also the uproar that erupted after Koshyari was caught on camera criticizing social activists Jyotirao and Savitribai Phule's child marriage. Pawar remarked. Recently, several powerful people have made insensitive remarks that are unacceptably offensive to Maharashtra and its people."
"Swarajya was founded by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his mother Rajmata Jijau. The basis for women's education was created by Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule, both Maharashtra social revolutionaries. Even as the MVA leaders slammed Koshyari's remarks, Ajit Pawar used the occasion to emphasize the importance of gubernatorial malfeasance in Modi's presence.
"Many 'Chakravarti' (emperors) and maharajas have been born in this area," Koshyari recently stated. But who would have inquired about Chandragupta if Chanakya had not existed? If there had been no Samarth (Ramdas), who would have inquired about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj?"
"I have no doubts about Chandragupta and Shivaji Maharaj's abilities. "The position of the guru (teacher) in our society is akin to that of a mother who plays a significant part in developing her kid," the Governor had added. His remark sparked outrage among leaders of both the government and opposition parties. Protests were held by the
Shiv Sena, the
NCP, and the
Congress, which is considering a resolution calling for the governor's recall.
