Rutuja Latke, the late Shiv Sena MLA Ramesh Latke's wife, ran for office on Friday for the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena in the Andheri East constituency. On Friday, Murji Patel was the opponent for Latke in the BJP. As a result of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), where Rutuja was employed as a clerk, refusing to accept her departure, her situation involved controversy. However, the Bombay High Court subsequently requested that the BMC accept her resignation. On Friday morning, the BMC reported that her resignation had been accepted.

While Rutuja was submitting her nomination, the Shiv Sena called in top MVA figures including Mumbai Congress Chief Bhai Jagtap and Dilip Walse Patil of the Nationalist Congress Party to present a unified front. The Shiv Sena predicted that the BJP will lose the elections by such a wide margin that it would even forfeit its deposit for its candidate.

Ashish Shelar, the head of the Mumbai BJP, responded by asserting that the Uddhav group's candidate would lose the election. "They (Sena members) have been whining and wailing about the Election Commission and the courts. After the results, they'll be upset and angry with the voters, "As Patel was submitting his nomination, Shelar remarked. Similar to the Uddhav group, the BJP decided to show its might by inviting prominent ministers from the Eknath Shinde camp, including Deepak Kesarkar, to the event.
