Kirit Somaiya, a former member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), appeared before the Santacruz Police Department on Sunday in connection with an FIR filed against him for allegedly violating COVID-19 guidelines during the pandemic-induced lockdown. Somaiya was summoned last week, according to police, after an FIR was filed in September at the Santacruz police station under different sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 188.

Somaiya was summoned to appear in court within 15 days, and he arrived at the Santacruz police station on Sunday, when he was given a copy of the FIR. He filed the FIR after visiting state minister Chhagan Bhujbal's residence in Santacruz's Hasnabad alley  (West). According to the police official, he was given 14 days to respond. Somaiya has been accusing some leaders of Maharashtra's ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA, which includes the Shiv Sena, NCP, and Congress) of wrongdoings.
