On Tuesday, the BMC demolished 17 illegal constructions on Namdev Patankar Road in Vikhroli East. According to city officials, a road 18.3 metres wide has been suggested in the area, but these structures are preventing it from being built. Despite the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) providing alternative lodging to these structures during the development of the 5th and 6th rail tracks, they claim there has been encroachment. The BMC's S-Ward has already issued notices to these structures and held hearings for residents who have been harmed.

BMC officers asked them to self-demolish during the proceedings and had to take coercive action when they didn't. Encroachers were dissatisfied with the MMRDA's accommodation, according to Ajitkumar Ambi, Assistant Municipal Commissioner of S-Ward. "As a result, we called MMRDA officials and railway representatives on three separate occasions and convened a meeting." Finally, we all agreed that accommodations had been provided in accordance with the requirements. From a broader public  perspective, the construction of DP Road is critical. "Even ambulances couldn't get past these tight streets," he explained.

All these have come at a time when Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections 2022 are around the corner and the ruling Shiv Sena namely Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition government consisting of Shiv Sena, Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) look forward to fighting the direct opposition of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
