In Election Mode , Political parties rename roads, chowks, playgrounds

Ahead of the BMC Election next year in February 2017, Mumbai corporators from different parties are rushing to move proposals naming various roads, chowks, gardens and playgrounds in the city after prominent personalities and leaders.
 
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials said 20 such proposals were passed in one month alone, all termed ‘urgent business’ on the civic body’s agenda during the general body meetings.
 
While Bharatiya Janata Party, Samajwadi Party and Akhil Bhartiya Sena moved one proposal each, the NCP and MNS moved three proposals each, the congress corporators moved six while shivsena moved five such proposals.
 
A chowk on the Motilal Sanghi Marg that connects Dr ABS Marg in Worli has been named ‘Missile Man Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Chowk’ after the former President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam while a chowk on the junction between KC Marg and Bandra Reclamation bus depot in Bandra has been named ‘Padma Bhushan Jagjit Singh’ after the ghazal maestro.
 
 
A newly developed garden in Worli has been named ‘Shahid Colonel Santosh Mahadik Udyan’.
 
In Nariman Point area, the chowk connecting Madam Cama Road and Jeevan Bima Marg has been named ‘Vilasrao Deshmukh Chowk’, located just beside the BJP Maharashtra headquarters.
 
A chowk opposite Bombay Scottish School in Mahim (West) has been named after Neerja Bhanot and was inaugurated by MNS.
