On the first anniversary of former MP Mohan Delkar's death, Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra Minister Aaditya Thackeray and his senior party colleague Sanjay Raut paid tribute to him at Silvassa town in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu on Tuesday.

Last year, Delkar, a seven-time Member of Parliament from the Dadra and Nagar Haveli Lok Sabha constituency, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in a hotel in Mumbai's Marine Drive district. At various points in his political career, Delkar was a member of both the Congress and the BJP. He was elected as an independent candidate from Dadra and Nagar Haveli, a Scheduled Tribe (ST) reserved constituency, in the 2019 general election.

Delkar's wife Kalaben was elected as a Shiv Sena candidate in the bypolls held in October of last year. On Tuesday, Delkar's family hosted a condolence meeting at their home in Silvassa town. "It's hard to think it's been a year since my father abandoned us all. He was a capable and popular regional leader. Both Aaditya Thackeray and Sanjay Rautji have come to pay their respects to him. My father's blessings, I believe, will always stay with us "Abhinav, Delkar's son, stated.

A probe into Delkar's killing is ongoing, according to Thackeray, and the Shiv Sena will bring justice to his family. "Sanjayji and I have come to offer our condolences to the Delkar family. With the Delkars, we enjoy a family-like relationship. As a result, we'll be here anytime they need us. Delkarji was a courageous commander. We shall all fight for justice, and giving Kalaben a ballot was also a step in that direction "he stated.
