Eknath Khadse, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), came before the Colaba police on Thursday to record his statement as a witness in the case filed against IPS officer Rashmi Shukla for allegedly illegally tapping politicians' phones. Officer Shukla had tapped Khadse's phone on his orders, according to Khadse, who had asked the police to look into it.

Khadse arrived at the Colaba police station in south Mumbai at 11 a.m., where a police inspector-rank officer took his statement. "Why did Rashmi Shukla tap my phone?" Khadse asked the reporters during a press conference. She is a government official rather than a member of a political party. As a result, on whose orders and instructions did she tap my phone? My life and privacy are sacred to me, and they cannot be invaded; she has done so.

My reputation has been slandered by accusations that I engage in anti-social behaviour, and she has added my name to a list of anti-social elements. I informed the police in my statement that I had previously informed the police in writing that my phone was being tapped. I had raised my suspicion before Devendra Fadnavis as well.

My phone was tapped when I was with the BJP, which is quite disappointing. It's a pity that government machinery is being abused for political purposes. Phones were tapped throughout the election season, and I believe they were tapped for political reasons. Who has listened to my taped conversation? Who has Shukla handed my taped conversation to? Who wants to use it for political gain? I've told the cops that this has to be thoroughly investigated."

The FIR against Rashmi Shukla was filed in March at the Colaba police station, based on a complaint filed by the Additional Commissioner of Police (Special Branch) under the Indian Telegraph Act and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, after a senior police officer accused her of putting the phone numbers of former BJP leader Khadse and Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut under surveillance.
