On Friday, as the political crisis entered its fourth day, renegade Shiv Sena Minister Eknath Shinde claimed the support of "40-plus MLAs," in addition to roughly 12 independents and other parties. Speaking to the media from Guwahati, Shinde also downplayed Nationalist Congress Party President Sharad Pawar's 'threat' that the dissident MPs would have to appear in Mumbai before the Governor or the Legislature to demonstrate their strength.

Such dangers do not frighten us... Everything we're doing is perfectly legal. We have papers from all of the MLAs stating that they joined us voluntarily. "We have a majority of more than 40 Sena MLAs, plus 12 independents and others," Shinde said. A day after informing his supporters that they will join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the leader of the breakaway party denied meeting with any BJP leaders in Guwahati on Friday.

As the three coalition partners chose to stick together till the end, the Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress accused the BJP of orchestrating the uprising to topple the 30-month-old Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). Dr. Nitin Raut, a state Congress Minister, accused the BJP of "murdering democracy" by instigating the Sena revolt.
