According to Ashok (Bhai) Jagtap Mumbai's new congress president, Congress should contest the 2022 Civic elections solo. His statement came post, the decision of Shiv Sena and NCPs declaration of fighting together all local body election, Mumbai civic poll and MVA defeating BJP in legislative council polls.

Congress wants to rebuild itself and "connect more" with the Marathi speaking population which is a majority in Mumbai. The party must also win back the north Indian, Hindu section of voters which it lost to BJP in the past.
