Chandrakant Patil, the Maharashtra BJP president, sparked a scandal by telling NCP MP Supriya Sule to "go home and cook" instead of participating in politics, prompting outrage from her party and Shiv Sena. Sadanand Sule, Sule's husband, made an uncommon move by defending his wife's job as a mother, homemaker and successful politician on Twitter.

Patil made the statements during a demonstration organised by the state BJP unit in Mumbai on Wednesday in support of the OBC reservation in elections. Ajit Pawar, Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister, also chastised Patil, saying he made a "very incorrect statement" that was contrary to Maharashtra's tradition. "It's possible that Chandrakant Patil's statement did not go over well with his party's leaders.

When there are numerous pressing issues in the state, such officials speak up, and the same is reflected in the media. As a result, political leaders and activists should make pronouncements with caution," he said. He urged political leaders to avoid making statements that would damage women's and other people's sentiments.

Without naming Patil, NCP State Women's Wing Head Vidya Chavan claimed that a person who denied a sitting woman MLA a ticket and contested from her constituency is badmouthing an MP who has twice received the Sansad Ratna award (for outstanding service). "We understand that you believe in Manusmriti, but we will no longer remain mute," "she stated.” "He should learn to cook chapattis so that he may assist his wife at home," Chavan continued."

Manisha Kayande, a Shiv Sena legislator, criticised Patil. What are your age and language skills? When conversing about a woman, how might your tongue slip? You will be forced to flee if a woman's hand slips. "This is the Maharashtra BJP President speaking about Supriya," Sadanand, Sule's husband, stated in a tweet attached to a video of Patil's comments. They are sexist, and they degrade women whenever they can, I have always maintained. I am proud of my wife, who is a mother, a successful politician, and one of India's many talented women. This is a slap in the face for all females."
