Sanjay Raut, a Shiv Sena MP, stated on Monday that central investigation agencies were "assigned targets" and were acting in a vengeful manner against politicians of Maharashtra's ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). Raut told reporters in New Delhi a day after Mumbai Police recorded BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis's statement in a case of alleged illegal phone tapping, that leaders of the MVA (which includes the Shiv Sena, NCP, and Congress) had received notices from central agencies as well, but that they did not stage dramas.

He was reportedly referring to the BJP's rallies in Maharashtra on Sunday, which included the burning of copies of the notice given to Fadnavis in the case. In separate money-laundering investigations, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) detained former state home minister Anil Deshmukh and current Cabinet Minister Nawab Malik.

"The central investigation agencies are pursuing Maharashtra's politicians with vengeance. In Maharashtra, they've been given goals. The investigative agencies are acting in accordance with the law" Raut said. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the country's tallest leader, Raut alleged that some BJP members were attempting to dwarf him.

BJP leader Nilesh Rane and his MLA brother Nitesh Rane were also chastised by the Rajya Sabha member for allegedly tying fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim to NCP Chief Sharad Pawar. Raut asked whether the Rane brothers' language against a "tall leader" like Pawar was acceptable to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Fadnavis, without mentioning the Rane brothers.
