The Shinde-Fadnavis administration has requested Maharashtra Governor BS Koshyari to treat the 12 names proposed by the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) for their nomination in the state council from the Governor's quota as cancelled, dealing yet another blow to the Shiv Sena. The governor has also been informed by the state government that a new list will be sent shortly.

Eknath Shinde, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, stated in a letter to Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiryari that "12 names suggested by his predecessor Uddhav Thackeray for the nomination of vacated Members of the Legislative Council (MLC) remain withdrawn."

According to Shinde, the administration will shortly send a new list of candidates for the nomination. An official from the government has stated that the MVA's suggested list of names has been withdrawn in light of the state's recent political leadership transition.

Devendra Fadnavis, the Deputy Chief Minister, recently disclosed that he alone has received more than 686 letters pleading for him to suggest them for nomination to the state council. Similar demands for nomination under the governor's quota in the state council have been made by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's supporters in huge numbers.

The MVA administration had nominated 12 persons for their nomination to the state council under the governor's quota back in November 2020, it is important to note. On October 30, 2020, the state cabinet gave the then-state Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray, permission to nominate 12 names to the legislative council. Following the sending of the names to Koshyari for nomination, the government then sent follow-up reminders.

From the NCP's quota, the MVA had suggested the names of Eknath Khadse, Raju Shetti, Yashpal Bhinge, and Anand Shinde. From the Shiv Sena's quota, Urmila Matondkar, Nitin Bangude-Patil, Vijay Karanjkar, and Chandrakant Raghuvanshi were selected, as were Rajni Patil, Sachin Sawant, Muzaffar Hussain, and Aniruddha Vankar from the Congress quota.
