BJP wants 100 seats for BMC 2017, if it is to fight in alliance with Shivsena

The BJP legislators from Mumbai have told their top brass that they should not proceed for a tie-up with Shivsena if it doesn’t agree to their offer of 100 seats for the BMC Elections 2017.
During BMC Elections 2012, the Shivsena contested on 135 seats while BJP contested only 63 seats, leaving the other seats for smaller parties like RPI.
One of the MLAs said the demand is in sync with BJP’s performance in Mumbai in the 2014 assembly elections. “We had emerged as the largest party with 15 seats. Though Sena was not far behind with 14 victories, we should be allowed to contest on at least 100, especially considering the new realities of politics.”
Explaining the maths behind their stand, the legislator said each assembly constituency is composed of six wards. “Going by that calculation, our default quota should be 90, and they must give us 10 more seats as a bonus.” Anything less than 100 will make it difficult for them to meet the growing aspirations of party cadres, he said
However, it is said that BJP city chief Ashish Shelar wants their party to go solo in the upcoming BMC Polls, as it will benefit more as they did in 2014 state assembly elections.
But Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is keen to keep the tie-up intact, said a source. “At stake is not the future of the party in BMC elections, but also our performance in 10 other municipal corporations that too will go to polls early next year.”
