BJP in Maharashtra holds state wide agitation against MVA over OBC reservation issue
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday commenced its state-wide agitation against the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition headed by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray for the reservation of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in the approaching Municipal and district body elections.

This agitation came after the order passed by the Supreme Court that says it will scrap the 27 percent reservation for OBCs and the overall quota should not be exceeding more than 50 percent. The Bharatiya Janata Party is alleging the state government’s weak legal representation in the Supreme Court on OBC reservation leading to this situation. The party in its state-wide agitation stated that their party will be head protests in more than 1000 places all over the state.

The plan by the BJP came after the decision made by the State Election Commission (SEC) of holding by polls elections in six district councils of Palghar, Dhule, Nandurbar, Akola, Washim, and Nagpur and 33 other panchayat samitis, on those seats which have been vacated after the order of Supreme Court against the Other Backward Class (OBC) quota in the local body elections.

The elections will be taking place on October 5 and the following day the votes will be counted. This clearly states that there will be no seats reserved for the OBC in the local body elections as the order from the apex court to the state government states that it needs to collect the empirical data for the OBC community to reinstate their political reservation.

The agitation started on Wednesday morning, in Aurangabad where all the BJP workers were gathered and shouted with slogans against the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government. “It was all mistake of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition government as it did not present its lawyer before the Supreme Court. The Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Chief Sharad Pawar will have to explain the OBC community,” Sanjay Kute stated.
