BJP confident of winning BMC elections 2017

Raosaheb Danve, the newly appointed Maharashtra unit chief of the BJP on Monday said his party’s flag will fly high on the civic body after February, 2017 elections. Mr Danve was unanimously reappointed as the State unit chief of the BJP on Monday.
The ruling Shiv Sena-Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and Republican Party of India (Athavale) alliance won the BMC elections in 2012. The BJP won 31 out of the 60 seats it contested while Shiv Sena won 75 seats (it contested 135)
Raosaheb Danve said he would prefer not to comment on whether his party will ally with the Sena or not for the civic election. “While poll strategy will be decided once the elections are announced, I am sure of one thing: the BJP flag will fly high on the BMC,” he said, indicating that the BJP may choose to contest the polls independently.
The 227 member Mumbai’s civic body – BMC, which is the largest in India in terms of revenue has been a stronghold for the Shiv Sena for the last 2 decades.
With the good performance in the Loksabha elections in 2014 and the state assembly elections it is likely that the BJP will demand an equal share of seats this time around if not more.
